PRODUCT REVIEW: OXO SALAD CHOPPER AND BOWL

Hot & healthy product alert!

I think it’s pretty safe to say this is a fact: chopped salads taste better.

They’ve already been pre-cut-up into tiny, bite-sized, pieces of goodness, ready for you to dive right in and not be slowed down with having to use a knife. I don’t know about you but when I sit down to eat a meal, I don’t like to work for it. I like to pick up my fork and start shoveling the delicious food into my mouth! Intuitively and mindfully of course 🙂

In every bite of a chopped salad, you taste a little bit of everything. It’s the “perfect bite” over and over again!

Plus when the ingredients are chopped this small, it releases more flavor and aroma too.

There are so restaurants now including chopped salads on their menus, from dedicated places like Chop’t to other restaurant like Yardhouse, California Pizza Kitchen, Cheesecake Factory…even Subway jumping on board!

If you’ve tried one before, I bet you can agree it’s safe to say this new salad fad is here to stay.

Unfortunately, re-creating the same effect in the comfort of your own home can be tough without some sweet knife skills.

Until now!

PRODUCT REVIEW: OXO SALAD CHOPPER AND BOWL

OXO (you know, the pop-top container company) has come out with a fantastic solution: the Salad Chopper and Bowl.

It’s pretty much a large bowl that comes with a double pizza cutter in it. It’s so obvious when you think about it, that I can’t figure out why no one has come out with it before. Once you use it, you won’t want to live without it! It’s a great size to make a good-sized portion (I love bigggg salads).

You can make them yourself really quickly by dumping in a container of pre-washed spinach or lettuce with some toppings, or you can pour in salads you get from other takeout places and chop those to taste even better too. Get creative using it for non-salad uses – like chopping up nuts/seeds or herbs or veggies for stir fry’s (I guess stir fry’s are just warm salads, but you get the point!).

If you aren’t really confident using the knife to cut things small, this is definitely a safer alternative. Your hands and fingers are way away from the blades. It’s also great for people with Parkinson’s Disease (my dad tested/approved!) and a safer alternative for elderly or teenagers.

It comes with a little recipe book too to make a Spinach & Apple Salad, Italian Salad, and Chicken & Walnut Salad.

I will say/warn if you aren’t going to clean the blade right away, put it in water to soak. Nothing more tedious than trying to get between the two blades to get that dried-on piece of lettuce off.

SO much flavor in every bite that you’ll probably end up cutting back on the amount of dressing that you use.

When it’s THIS easy to make super tasty and really healthy meals, why wouldn’t you want to get one?!  I’m lucky because my awesome sister-in-law sent me mine as a birthday gift 🙂 Maybe you know someone that would like it too!

Here’s some “from the company” description about their product:

Quickly and easily transform everyday vegetables into appetizing and nutritious chopped salads with the OXO Good Grips Salad Chopper and Bowl. The Chopper has a soft, non-slip handle and two stainless steel blades that effectively slice lettuce, vegetables, cheese, fruit, meat and more.

The Bowl has a continuous curve that is in constant contact with the blades for efficient cutting, and the rim serves as a grip for rotating the bowl while chopping. The Bowl can also be taken directly to the table for serving. Simply assemble salad ingredients in the bowl, chop, dress and serve.

At 5.5 quart capacity, the Bowl can accommodate up to 6 servings. Both Salad Chopper and Bowl are dishwasher safe for easy cleaning.
