Let’s talk sunscreen!
Your skin is your largest organ. It is also the one that covers and protects everything inside your body, so it makes sense you’d want to protect it as best as you can! Sunscreen is helpful for protecting your skin against UV radiation from the sun, but keep in mind: many sunscreens are loaded with some super questionable ingredients, which can cause harmful effects on your skin and body (basically cause more damage than good).
26 seconds is all it takes for the chemicals in sunscreen to enter your bloodstream.
Check the sunscreen you use to make sure it doesn’t have:
And avoid spray versions, which have added chemicals for performance purposes (likely toxic to the lungs).
My favorite sunscreen brand is Coola! They use ingredients you can actually pronounce, contains 70%+ certified organic ingredients, goes on transparent (no white streaks!), and even has anti-oxidants to protect your skin from the inside. I buy mine from Amazon.com.
If you’re still not convinced protecting yourself with sunscreen is beneficial or “worth it” definitely check this out.
There is benefit to being outside in the sun for shorter amounts of time without any suncreen on too: boosting our vitamin D levels. Vitamin D is different from other vitamins because our own bodies can manufacture it with sunlight exposure. It’s important to keep your vitamin D levels up for many reasons (promoting bone health, serotonin level booster, fat burning, cancer prevention, eye health, reducing inflammation, etc). so be sure you are being safe in the sun and use both of these techniques!
